Van Gaal Focused on Netherlands

By Engerlund

Having admitted he was offered the role as Tottenham Hotspur boss, Netherlands manager, Louis van Gaal, has insisted that all his focus is on bringing success to the national side at the World Cup in Brazil this summer.

After the departure of Andre Villas-Boas at White Hart Lane, a host of managers were linked with the position in the live football commentary.

However, Van Gaal has insisted he never had any plans to accept a role with the Premier League outfit alongside his work with the national side.

With the World Cup in Brazil edging closer, the Netherlands boss is just focused on the tournament in South America but has not ruled out the possibility of working in England in the future.

He told Sky Sports: “I don’t do things in a double function (holding two jobs at the same time).

“You have to give an example to your players that they have to focus on the national team and that is my ambition also.

“After the World Cup I shall retire or, if there is a Premier League club, I shall think about it.”

Van Gaal will certainly have his work cut out for him in Brazil this summer, if the men in orange are to go far in the tournament.

With the likes of reigning champions, Spain, Chile, and Australia in their group, simply getting past the first stage of the competition will be no easy task for the Netherlands but their manager will be hoping to leave the international stage on a high.
