GOLDEN BOOT RACE: BAMFORD ON TARGET

By Marc

Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford scored one of the goals as he helped his team to an important win over Southampton in the league thereby boosting his chances of ending the season as the Golden Boot winner in the Premier League. The England player was the recipient of the opening goal as Leeds United beat Southampton 3-0 at home in a rescheduled league fixture. Leeds United had lost their last two league matches ahead of the Southampton game but they were able to return to winning ways courtesy the comprehensive second half display that led to the big win over the Saints.

After a goalless first half, Leeds United took the lead through England player Patrick Bamford with two minutes on the clock in the second half off the assist from Welsh international player Tyler Roberts. The England striker took his Premier League tally for this season to 13 goals. Only the duo of Liverpool attacker Mohamed Salah and Manchester United playmaker Bruno Fernandes has more goals than England player Patrick Bamford this season. Mohamed Salah is still on 17 goals after he failed to find the back of the net at the weekend during the 2-0 home loss to Everton in the Merseyside Derby. Portuguese international midfielder Bruno Fernandes was able to take his Premier League tally to 15 goals this season with his penalty for Manchester United during the 3-1 home win over Newcastle United on Sunday night.

Patrick Bamford produced a good finish to set Leeds United on their way to victory before Stuart Dallas and Brazilian player Raphinha added two late goals to make it a dominant win for the newly promoted team. Patrick Bamford has been spearheading Leeds United’s push for a place in Europe next season and he is in contention to be part of the England squad for the European Championship this summer.
