BEST IN THE WORLD

By Engerlund

The chairman of the recently developed St George’s Park football facility in England –David Sheepshanks – has said that this facility has the capability to become the best in the world, according to the Tottenham news website.

England have been extremely criticised in the last few years for their inability to develop their own coaches, who have then gone on to manage them internationally. Due to the lack of good quality local managers, the England national team has had a number of foreign managers including the previous one – Fabio Capello. As a result, the England football Association decided to step up their efforts in bringing a football facility that is very similar to the one used in France.

The project was recently completed after a gap of more than 10 years due to various disputes arriving at various stages. However, the chairman is confident that the time and money spent on the football facility is going to make the England national team one of the best in the world. The football facility has been built on a 330 acre site and will house a lot of training facilities and coaching facilities. The former Ipswich town chairman David Sheepshanks has been placed in charge of the facility and he has expressed his delight at this honour.

“Hopefully the rest of the world will see this as a statement of intent by English football, which we will go on seeking to improve. It is a nerve-centre, a think-tank. I could almost say, if I was allowed to, a Mecca. It is a meeting point for the game, a congregating nerve centre where it doesn’t matter whether you are coaches, chief execs, physios, commercial directors, nutritionists – it is a place where the game can come together,” said David Sheepshanks. England were eliminated in the quarter-final stage at the Euro 2012.
